Embedded in head of document - only effect content within that document
style tags inside head element
underneath title - put comment tags around the css tags embeddedin document
some browsers don't support css - these will read these as comments and ignore the css - ignore within the comment tags

when embedding css in document don't forget style tags & type attribute with the value text/css
embedding css within doc is best
good for: logs gadgets widgets template driven sites
larger more complex - not efficient to embed all css within each document - other options are available
